Case Study
Sewage Treatment - a rural area with
a small sewage
treatment works treating the surrounding town (approximately
2 megalitres per day). Between March and October each
year the local population increases significantly due
to tourists and visitors to the area. As a result, the
total sewage demand increases significantly. This increase
in the population results in a large increase in the
amount of grease and fat required to be treated from
hotels, restaurants, pubs and cafes.
Historically, there were regular blockages in the sewer
system, mainly in the main street of the town. In the
sewage treatment works continual problems with blockages
in the fat boxes of the primary settlement tanks meant
that the fat had to be cleared manually on a daily basis.
Treatment using BioTreat WT100 in the sewer network
and the sewage works eliminated blockages in the sewer
drains throughout summer and the sewage works did not
receive any grease balls from the town. At the sewage
works, there were no blockages in the fat boxes and
they are emptied using the transfer lines every two
weeks. With regular use they have not only seen a massive
improvement with the fat boxes but also in the sludge
holding tanks and sludge transfer lines.
